PHPKetchup Project

Abstract:

Many web-developers complain about switching to desktop applications simply because they are built using Java or C# language. PHP, they say, is one of the most professional and widely supported web programming languages and is cross-platform, so why give that up for Java or C#? For those who learned application development on PHP or those who have made PHP their primary development tool, the idea of ditching PHP for something else may seem daunting or time-consuming. For companies, switching to another language can require reallocating resources, creation of projects from scratch, compilation of source-code after each editing, training of employees, or hiring of new employees. Whatever the case, leaving PHP for another language can be costly and time-consuming.

Objective of this project is to create a framework that supports cross-platform application development with the power of PHP and GTK. We will use an already existing PHP framework to reduce development time and provide a good set of features.

It would probably be good if

It would probably be good if you could give more details about the design you intend for the framework, and what already existing framework are you planning to build this upon? I think these are really some of the greatest factors in determining whether such a framework would be well received or not... but neither in what you write here nor on the website can I find more information about that.

Design, Intent and Existing Framework Details

Actually the project was in very initial phases those days. We were analyzing various aspects and waiting for survey results to see if it is worth working on. To date we have received 60+ survey responses, and the overall result was positive.

Design: Design is yet in initial phases and not final, but you can get some idea of it from our website now.
Intend: To do research on transformation of PHP framework to PHP-GTK framework and show an implementation of it.
Existing Framework: We are going for "CodeIgniter"
