Code completion for PHP-GTK in Zend Studio 5.5

Enabling PHP-GTK2 code completion in Zend Studio 5.5 for a project is very simple. The following example is given on Windows, but the steps should be the same on any supported platform.

First run the Gtk_Dumper.php extractor as described on the previous page, and save the generated skeleton file to some stable directory, say e:\src\php\php-gtk\stubs-2.0.1.php for code completion on the PHP-GTK 2.0.1 version.

Enabling code completion for PHP-GTK in your PHP IDE

One of the most useful aspects of Integrated Development Environments (IDE), like Zend Studio or Eclipse PDT, is the ability to obtain code completion information when typing PHP source.

Regrettably, however, none of these IDEs is by default instrumented to provide code completion for PHP-GTK developers. But there is a way to make them seem PHP-GTK-aware.

PHP-GTK 2.0.1 released

PHP-GTK 2.0.1 has been released, head over to the download page and get your copy.

This release, named you knew this was coming, adds full support for GtkBuilder and tooltips; in addition to a slew of bug fixes and overrides:

Install PHP-GTK 2 on MacOS X

Installation of PHP-GTK 2 on MacOS X 10.4 and 10.5 is actually pretty simple, as it can use the latest PHP-GTK installer, which works just like any other Mac installer.

Just follow the screenshots below this text. The installer includes all the pre-requisites required for PHP to run , but the best feature of the installer is that you don't need X to run GTK+ apps, and the theme is by default Quartz-engine powered, which means you get the whole native Mac look.

Google Summer of Code and PHP-GTK

Anant Narayanan, one of the PHP-GTK maintainers, has just announced on the PHP-GTK dev list that it seems PHP will be participating in the Summer of Code again this year, and this might be a good opportunity to get a student to work on some aspect of PHP-GTK.

Both Elizabeth and him are willing to be mentors.

They have put up a couple of ideas on http://wiki.php.net/gsoc/2008#php-gtk and an announcement will appear shortly on the gtk.php.net site.

If you know someone suitable who will be eligible to participate, please encourage them to send in an application.
